55 Baker Street

A dramatic landmark development designed by Ken Shuttleworth of Make Architects. The development for London & Regional Properties included 61,735 sq metres of office accommodation over 8 floors in addition to ground floor retail outlets, basement leisure facilities and a separate block of three storey townhouses. Defensor were appointed as a specialist contractor to supply and install the fire alarm, voice alarm, disabled refuge and fire telephone systems. Defensor were appointed by tenants BDO Stoy Hayward LLP, Oliver Wyman, Brevan Howard, Trafalgar Asset Management and Knight Frank to carry out fit out works to each of the tenant floors with a total project value in excess of £1 million.

Nottingham Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

A program of building schools for Nottingham which will result in over ten 21st century learning centres that will improve or replace the cities existing schools over a six year period. The first phase valued at up to £90 million was awarded to Inspired Spaces under the Building Schools for the Future programme and involved the rebuilding of eight secondary schools by 2012. The schools will deliver a learning environment that meets the demands of a 21st century education, offering better accessibility for pupils with disabilities, flexible working environments and natural ventilation. Defensor were awarded a contract in excess of £250,000 for the supply and installation of the fire alarm and public address systems for the first three projects of the scheme at Hadden Park, Oakfield and Bigwood Schools.

Following on from the award for Nottingham Schools, Defensor have been awarded contracts for BSF projects in Camden, Leeds and Southampton, and are working on proposals for a number of other projects around the country.

Riverbank House

Standing close to London Bridge the 10 storey development provides 29,000 sq metres of high quality office space in the capital's busy financial district. As part of a fit out contract for Man Group, a leading alternative investment business, Defensor were appointed to supply and install a new fire alarm, aspiration, voice alarm, gas suppression and disabled toilet alarm system. Following on from the Man Group contract, Defensor were appointed to provide systems for the Royal Bank of Canada bringing the total project value to in-excess of £750,000.

BG Group

A world leader in the gas industry, BG Group carried out a major review into the future of its Reading headquarters. Of its four buildings, one was unoccupied while three were operating beyond capacity and with a significant increase in staff numbers forecast. BG undertook an extensive programme to fully refurbish and reoccupy the vacant building and refurbish the remaining three buildings. The works were carried out over a two year construction period at a cost of approximately £80 million. Defensor were awarded the contract to supply and install new fire alarm & disabled refuge systems to all four buildings with a project value in excess of £1 million. The project has been completed and BG have a headquarters that fully reflects their position as a world leader in the gas industry.

Leicester Tigers Caterpillar Stand

Opened at the start of the 2009/2010 season and taking the capacity at Welford Road to 24,000 the caterpillar stand was a major investment for the club to replace the existing 90 year old stand to increase capacity and to attract fresh interest in the clubs conference and events facilities. Defensor were awarded the contract for the new fire alarm system continuing the relationship between companies as the clubs fire alarm maintenance contractor.

University of the West of England (UWE)

The UWE is a modern, growing university in the harbour side city of Bristol. With around 30,000 students from over 140 countries and 3,500 staff spread over four campuses making the University the largest provider of Higher Education in the South West of England.

Ascot Racecourse

The Racecourse is visited by over 500,000 race goers a year, accounting for 10% of all UK race goers. Ascot has a full time staff of 70 which increases to over 6,000 temporary staff during Royal Ascot.

West Midlands Police

The West Midlands Force is the second largest in the country covering an area of 348 square miles and serving a population of almost 2.6 million people. The region sits at the heart of the country and covers the three major centres of Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. The Force have a number of Police Stations, Offices and Ancillary buildings throughout the region fitted with fire and safety systems.
